Telephone Questions and Information for Students

1. What do I need to do to get a phone in my apartment or dorm room?

  • Each student is responsible for bringing their own phone

2. What kind of phone do we need?

  • Any touch-tone phone will do.

3. Do we need to get our own telephone service provider?

  •  No, UCO provides that for you.

4. Where do we go to get our phone number and extension?

  • Extension numbers for the residents on campus are available through the Hall/Commons Community building desks, located in room 309 in the University Center, x2746.

5. I am interested in having voice-mail for my phone, how do I go about obtaining one and does it cost?

  • Phone-Mail voice messaging is available at a reasonable fee from the Housing Office located in room 309 of the University Center

6. How does voice mail service work?

  • This service acts like an answering machine, allowing access from any touch-tone phone on or off-campus, automatic time and extension of calls, and step-by-step prompts to receive, send, answer, and forward messages.

7. If I am having problems with my phone line who do I contact?

  • All telephone problems should be reported to the Help Desk at x2255 or the Telephone Office at x2568.

8. If I need to make an emergency call, is there a campus emergency number?

  • For emergencies, call 9-1-1, (the campus police extension is 2345)

9. How do I place a call on campus?

  • Dial the four digit extension

10. I need to make a local call what do I do?

  • To place a local call: dial 9 + the seven-digit number.

11. How do I make a long distance call?

  • Dial 9, enter your calling card number, and enter the 10-digit telephone number, or dial your international telephone number.

12. How do I make a toll-free call?

  • To make a toll free call: dial 9+1+800+ the rest of the number.
